Happy Peterson, Minister of Students

How long have you been at Hollywood?

Almost 5 years

What brought you to Hollywood?

Ultimately we wanted to move closer to our family and were praying God would open a door into a vibrant ministry. Next thing you know our home church is looking for someone to fill its youth ministry spot. I have always sensed that Hollywood was open to seeing God change the lives of those in its community and that was the thing that attracted us to service here.

When did you sense God’s calling on your life?

Back in high school (at Hollywood) I had a sense of God wanting to do something specific in my life, but it wasn't until my first year of college that it became clear what that call may have looked like.

Family facts:

I am married. Two girls. One child on the way. One dog.

Goals and vision for your ministry:

To see students and families come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and pursue a vibrant, healthy relationship with Him.

Favorite activity:

Playing with my girls.

Favorite verse:

2 corinthians 2:17

How long have you been at Hollywood?

One year

What brought you to Hollywood?

True worship, Bible study, fellowship, youth ministry, its support of missions, and opportunities to serve the Lord.

When did you sense God’s calling on your life?

Senior year of high school, and throughout my journey.

Family facts:

Husband: Curtis Heyward; Christian Counselor and Pastor (Vann’s Valley Baptist)
Children: Richie and Jamie
I’m the fifth of six children, and I grew up in China Grove, NC

Goals and vision for your ministry:

Where He leads me, I will follow; where He sends, I will go. My desire is to be used as God’s instrument, to submit my abilities and my inabilities, and to allow Him to use them for His glory and His kingdom – in my family, my community, and my church.

Favorite activity:

Spending time with my family…really. We enjoy camping, playing games, music, movies, photography, beautiful sunsets, traveling, and laughing together. When I’m alone I love to read or solve “easy” Sudoku puzzles!

Favorite verse:

I love to discover treasures in God’s Word and memorize them. It’s difficult to recall them word for word sometimes, but I can remember enough to look them up. They bring me comfort and encouragement and the reassurance that God is still in control. His Word is life to me. (Deut. 32:47)

I Peter 3:17 “For it is better, if God should will it so, that you suffer for doing what is right rather than for doing what is wrong.”
